Save yourself the frustration and go to Kia of Orland Park. I called Kia of Joliet to schedule an appointment because the sliding door on my 2023 Kia Carnival will not close properly. While making the appointment, I also found out that I have THREE open recalls. Since I’m getting close to 100,000 miles, I explained that I wanted the vehicle looked over as well before my warranty expires. I also specifically explained that I have four children and being without a vehicle for an entire day is not exactly an easy option for me. I was told on the phone that I could most likely get a rental for the day. Great. I scheduled the appointment based on that conversation. Then I actually showed up. First, I was told there would be a diagnostic fee for the sliding door. Nobody mentioned that when I scheduled the appointment. My husband is a mechanic, so I completely understand diagnostic fees. My issue is the lack of communication. Then I found out that the sliding door isn’t covered under the 100,000-mile warranty because that portion of the warranty apparently ended at 60,000 miles. Again, information that would have been extremely helpful to know when I was ON THE PHONE specifically discussing the sliding door and my warranty. I asked the service advisor if they could at least TRY submitting the sliding door issue to Kia to see if they would consider covering it since the vehicle is only three years old. His answer was simply no. Wouldn’t even try. Apparently asking Kia the question was too much effort. And then, surprise, no rental car. Yes, they could give me a ride home. That’s not the point. I have FOUR CHILDREN. I scheduled this appointment under the impression that I would have a rental vehicle for the day because that is what I was told when I called. Being dropped off at home and having no vehicle for an unknown number of hours is not the same thing. Mistakes and miscommunications happen. What separates good customer service from bad customer service is what you do AFTER the mistake happens. There was absolutely no effort to make the situation right or find a solution. Just a whole lot of “no.” So I left. No recalls completed. No inspection. No sliding door diagnosis. Nothing. Kia of Joliet is less than 10 miles from my house, and I will happily drive right past it and make the trip to Kia of Orland Park, where I purchased my Carnival and where the customer service has always been exceptional. If you’re deciding between the two, do yourself a favor: keep driving to Orland Park.
